(Department of Defense – Diamond Head) The intent of this project was to mitigate rockfall hazards impacting the Department of Defense Storage Tunnels on Diamond Head Road in Honolulu, Hawaii. This scope of this job included clearing, rock scaling, herbicide application, concrete demolition, and shotcrete replacement. First the tunnels and surrounding areas were cleared of all plant life and roots that were causing problems with the old shotcrete surface. Next we scaled and removed all loose materials from the tunnels using drills and breaker bars. These areas were then cleaned and prepped to spray with a new 4″ layer of shotcrete. The shotcrete was sprayed, cured, and acceptably tested for strength by third party engineers. Job time was approximately 2 weeks.
