Pupukea Road Rockfall Mitigation (City and County of Honolulu – Haleiwa, Hawaii) Phase 2:

Significant clearing and scaling of hillside. Cut much of slope 4′ back from edge of pavement to allow for better line of site and provide a wider shoulder for Pupukea Road. Installed 23,000′ Sq Ft of anchored double twist wire mesh drapery on slope above roadway. Installed 700′ L.F. of high impact fence at a height of 6.6′ to 13’0. These fence systems included: reinforced concrete foundations, base plates, steel posts, steel ring net, chainlink mesh netting, intermediate anchor ropes, lateral anchor ropes, brake away rings, top and bottom support ropes, and ground anchors. All potentially hazardous boulders on hillside were locked into the slope with rock dowels. Much of hillside was further stabilized with sculpted and painted, fiber-reinforced shotcrete. Hydromulch was applied along with planting/landscaping of native plants.
